Manchester United couldn’t have asked for a better start to the Premier League season. Taking maximum points from their first three games, the Red Devils have scored 10 goals and not conceded. Sitting top of the league table, two points clear of rivals Liverpool heading into the international break will have delighted Jose Mourinho and fans alike.
Starting the season at Old Trafford against West Ham, many thought it would have been a tough fixture as the Hammers recruited very well in the summer. It was anything but though, with United taking full control of the game early on they ended up brushing aside their opponents as they ran out 4-0 winners. New singing Romelu Lukaku got his name on the team sheet as he grabbed a brace for United and Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba chipped in with the other two goals to ensure the Red Devils started with maximum points.
Just a week later United made the trip to Swansea, and it was the same outcome as the Red Devils made it back to back 4-0 victories. Despite Swansea showing some resilience in the first half, Eric Bailly broke the deadlock right on the stroke of half time as he bundled home from a corner, before the trio who scored the weekend previously all grabbed a goal a piece to ensure it was maximum points again.
Heading into last weekends game at home to Leicester City most United fans were confident after the successful start to the season. Despite having the majority of chances including a penalty kick which saw Kasper Schmeichel pull off a terrific save from Romelu Lukaku, it took the Red Devils 70 minutes to break the deadlock. With Anthony Martial starting ahead of Marcus Rashford after his early season form, Rashford had to settle for coming off the bench and he took his opportunity as he grabbed the games opening goal as he beat Schmeichel instinctively, before other substitute Maraoune Fellaini grabbed the second United goal to wrap up another three points.
Heading into the International break and sat top of the league, everybody connected with the club will be delighted with the start and will be hoping that the club are in the mix come the end of the season to win the title.
