Arsenal should look to add this proven Premier League defender to their ranks

Arsenal have made a poor start to the new Premier League season, winning just one of their opening three games, and have conceded eight goals.

Following their 4-0 thrashing by Liverpool on Sunday, many supporters were again calling for change to the clubs management and hierarchy. New striker Alexandre Lacazette was left on the bench, whilst Alex Oxlade Chamberlain started despite rumours that he was set to leave the club before Thursdays transfer deadline.

Also with reports that Shkodran Mustafi wants to leave after only 12 months with the club, it leaves Arsenal short of centre half’s and needing to head into the transfer market very late on in the window.

With this in mind, the ‘Gunners’ should turn their attentions to Southampton centre half Virgil Van Dijk.

Virgil Van Dijk – The Dutch centre half has been linked with a move away from St Mary’s throughout the summer, with Liverpool expressing an interest, but with Arsenal needing to add quality to their defensive ranks Van Dijk would be the perfect fit.

Having joined Southampton from Celtic in 2015, he has gone on to make over 50 appearances for the club, helping them also to 17 clean sheets. Van Dijk also chips in with a few goals, as he has found the back of the net on 20 occasions for the three clubs he has played for.

With his wealth of experience Van Dijk would be the perfect fit to tighten up the Arsenal backline, but with him being one of the most in demand defenders in the Premier League, Arsenal are going to have to stump big money if they are to land him.
