Manchester United have made the perfect start to the Premier League season as they have a 100% winning record. This is largely down to the team ethic and how quickly the new signings have settled in.
Over the summer Jose Mourinho made it clear that he would like to bring in 3/4 new players, and that number was hit as he completed the signings of Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and he also bought Zlatan Ibrahimovic back to the club.
Below I analyse each of the new signings the club have made.
Victor Lindelof – Despite been given his opportunities throughout pre-season, Lindelof rarely looked comfortable and it was apparent that its going to take him some time to gel with his new teammates.
For the opening game of the season Jose Mourinho went with the pairing of Eric Bailly and Phil Jones in the defence. This selection choice has proved to be a success as United have kept 3 straight clean sheets, and has kept Lindelof out of the starting eleven.
It is still very early days for Lindelof at Old Trafford and he cannot be judged just on pre-season performances, but he is going to have to take his chance when given it if he is to be a regular starter in the defence.
Romelu Lukaku – The £75m transfer for the Belgian striker was welcomed by many supporters. Having been left with only Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial as attacking options, it was a position that Mourinho had to add a quality player to and in Lukaku he has got that.
Lukaku has hit the ground running early as he has found the back of the net 3 times in 3 Premier League games, making himself an instant fans favourite. If he carries on his goal scoring form he certainly could be the difference between the ‘Red Devils’ winning the league title and not.
Nemanja Matic – Another signing of proven Premier League quality, as Matic joined United from Chelsea for £50m. Many fans were pleasantly surprised that Antonio Conte had sanctioned the move of the Serbian midfielder, after the ‘Red Devils’ took Romelu Lukaku from under the noses of the London outfit and the fact that United are title rivals to Chelsea.
The defensive midfield position was another position that needed an extra body, as Michael Carrick isn’t able to play week in week out anymore. Matic, like Lukaku has made a terrific start to his United career, picking up man of the match in the first game against West Ham and looking so comfortable in the other two games, has seen him become a vital part of the team already.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic – Ending United’s top goal scorer last season with 28 goals before his campaign was cut short due to a cruciate ligament injury, it is clear to see why Jose Mourinho has bought the Swedish striker back.
Every club Ibrahimovic has played for he has scored goals, and even though he has had a lay off with his injury I have no doubt that he will come back into the team this season and play his part in helping Manchester United compete in every trophy they compete in.
