With there being no Premier League action tonight with The Champions League taking over we thought we should highlight the top four games from England’s three professional leagues in action.
Aston Villa VS Middlesbrough
Two former Premier League big boys face off tonight as Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa welcome Garry Monk’s Middlesbrough. Aston Villa have had a rocky start to the season as they sit in 18th place with just six points after three draws and one win from their opening six games. Middlesbrough are in the last play off spot on ten points after a solid start for Monk and The Riverside. The game will be tight and for that reason I’m predicting a 1-1 draw which will be a better result for Middlesbrough.
QPR VS Millwall
It’s a London derby tonight as Championship new boys Millwall travel to former Premier League club QPR. Millwall have had a tough start to the season as they only have five points from six games but as we know anything can happen in a derby. Millwall striker Tom Elliott is a doubt for the Lions after suffering an injury in training on Friday. QPR have started the season well and QPR boss Ian Holloway hasn’t lost a match against Millwall since November 2000, when his Bristol Rovers side went down 2-1 – on the scoresheet for the Lions that day was current boss Neil Harris. My prediction is 3-1 to QPR.
Charlton Athletic VS Wigan Athletic
It’s the battle the Athletics as Charlton host Wigan in what should be a thrilling match down in League One. Charlton are flying high in League One as they lie in second place and a win could see them go top. Karl Robinson’s side are on a roll. They look dangerous when going forward and could really hurt this Wigan side. Wigan will be hoping that they go straight back up to The Championship this season and a win at The Valley would place them well for the season. My prediction is 3-2 to Charlton as they have too much going forward.
Forest Green Rovers VS Lincoln City
The two new clubs in the EFL meet tonight as Forest Green Rovers host last seasons FA Cup heroes Lincoln City. Cultural club Forest Green have been making headlines recently with their new eco-friendly stadium and vegan food menu. However, they have struggled since coming up to League Two via the National League play-offs and find themselves in 22nd place on just four points. In contrast Lincoln have had as good a start as they could’ve hoped for with nine points from six games leaving them in 11th place. The game should be a fiercely contested game but I predict that Forest Green will com out 2-1 winners.
