Its fair to say after the summer transfer window, many thought that West Ham would get off to a terrific start this season, and push for a top half finish. Bringing in the likes of Joe Hart, Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic, gave ‘Hammers’ supporters hope and optimism, but the start of the season hasn’t supported that.
After just 1 victory in their opening 4 fixtures, some supporters are questioning whether Slavan Bilic is the right man for the job. It’s not the first time that Bilic has been under the cosh since he has been with the club, but he managed to silence the critics on Monday evening when West Ham beat newly promoted Huddersfield Town 2-0.
We look at 3 reasons why West Ham should stick with Slavan Bilic, despite their slow start to the new Premier League campaign.
Recruitment – The owners have back the Croatian manager in the transfer market this summer, spending in the region of £40m. The signings that the club have bought in have been of a higher calibre than in the past and this shows the pull that the club under Bilic has.
Only 4 games into the new season, is far to early to start thinking about replacing a manager. The club and its supporters need to rally around the team and manager and allow him time to embed his playing style on the new recruits and the rest of the playing staff.
Played for the club – Having played for the club in the 90s, Bilic knows the club well and even though Everton came calling in his playing days, he remained with the ‘Hammers’ until the end of the 1997 campaign, to ensure they stayed in the Premier League.
With this in mind, its shows his loyalty to the club and he also knows what the fans demand and expect from there team, and also can sell the club well to any new incoming players.
Previous seasons experience – Having both played and managed in the Premier League, Bilic knows what is required to get the best out of his team. Calling upon all his experience last season he guided West Ham to an 11th place finish, and after the recruitment the club have done this summer, that could turn into a higher placed finish this season.
