Derby County’s start to the Championship season has surprised many. Before a ball was kicked the ‘Rams’ were expected to be competing towards the top end of the league table, but instead find themselves in 15th place, having won just 3 of their opening 7 fixtures.
Since destroying Hull City at the start of September 5-0, the club have gone on to lose their next two fixtures against Barnsley and Bristol City respectively, and manager Gary Rowett may have to look to the free market to bring in re-inforcements to bolster his squad.
Having failed in a deadline day move for Birmingham City midfielder Maikel Kieftenbald and having let the likes of Will Hughes, Craig Bryson and Jacob Butterfield leave Pride Park over the summer, the club are left short of numbers in midfield and could turn their attentions to free agent Joe Ledley.
Joe Ledley – Having been without a club since leaving Crystal Palace, many tipped Ledley to find a new club over the summer, but as that hasn’t happened he could be the perfect player for Derby County.
Being a player who can operate different roles throughout the midfield, Ledley would give Derby versatility and also as a goal scoring midfielder he could take some of the burden off the strikers.
