Match-day two in the Champions League sees Manchester United take on CSKA Moscow in the Russian capital in what could be a stern test for the red devils. CSKA are currently on a 4-match unbeaten home record in Europe, conceding just two goals along the way. However, United are not short of confidence themselves having made a solid start in all competitions so far, with their talisman Romelu Lukaku looking to continue his impressive start to life under Jose Mourinho.
The Russian champions will be aware of United’s shaky away record in Europe of recent times, having been guilty of struggling to close games off and get the vital win. But optimism seems to be booming around the theatre of dreams with problems of previous seasons seeming to be put right by the man labelled ‘the special one’.
With both midfielders Marouane Fellaini and Paul Pogba both out of the tie through injury, it is likely United’s player of the season last campaign, Ander Herrera, will make his second start of the season after beginning as a somewhat forgotten figure. CSKA’s Timur Zhamaletdinov is set to lead the line for the Russian team, hoping to pick up where he left off against Benfica in match-day one, scoring the winner in what was his Champions League debut.
Both teams currently sit at the top of group A having beaten their opponents on match-day one. Although Manchester United will be viewed as the favourites going into the game, Viktor Goncharenko’s men will try everything in their power to make United’s mission in Moscow as difficult as possible.
