Gillingham have endured a torrid start to the season in League One as they sit in 23rd place having gained just seven points from eleven games. Gillingham parted ways with former manager Ady Pennock on the 25th September and it seems that they have found their next manager.
Mansfield Town have confirmed on their official Twitter that they have rejected an approach from Gillingham for their manager Steve Evans.
Evans has has a great spell at Mansfield turning them into promotion candidates in less than a year with the club. If Gillingham manage to lure Evans then they will be gaining a manager who has vast experience including stints Leeds and Rotherham in the Championship.
For me Evans would be a great appointment for The Gills as he is a man that know the league well and can adapt under pressure. Should he sign January will be massive for the club and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Gillingham challenging for Promotion as we are only eleven games in.
For Mansfield they are obviously reluctant to let Evans go and so they should be as they’re in a great position at the moment and their season could be disrupted should he go. If Mansfield can’t find a replacement then I can’t see Evans leaving the club.
