Upon This Rock: Only One Jack Marriott
Peterborough have always been a very attacking team and have always had a great striker in the squad. After the departure of Conor Washington in January 2016 the Posh hasn’t had a striker that had the position on lockdown. With the addition of Jack Marriott has that all changed?
Over the summer Grant McCann has added a lot of talent up top with the likes of Ricky Miller, Danny Lloyd and Idris Kanu from the National League, the biggest name to come in up front over the summer is Jack Marriott. Marriott came from Luton Town for around £450,000 on a four year deal.
With Marriott being one of the biggest signing the Posh made over the summer there was a lot of expectation on the new striker and he has had a great start to life in League 1 and seems to be the name you’d expect to see on the Posh starting line-up each and every week. Marriott has scored 9 goals in 11 games for the Posh so far this season and if this continues he could help lead them to a play-off push by the end of the season.
Marriott won Player of the Month for August for his efforts as well which shows how much of a factor he has been for the team at the start of the season and it seems that he looks to keep scoring he told the BBC, “We’re building to promotion, we want to finish as champions,” showing he has big ambitions for the club and being at the club as a whole, if he keeps the form up that he’s had since the start of the season I don’t see why not.
Marriott also takes inspiration from a big name in the footballing world, “We’re both quite small, there’s not many people I’d be able to model my game on,” Marriott told the Daily Mail when he mentioned about taking inspiration from Sergio Aguero. It’s a big player to be inspired by and you can see in the way he plays that he has adapted a lot of his game and if he can keep playing the way he is I don’t see why he couldn’t become a great player for Peterborough.
With McAnthony having a history of selling strikers as well the question is if Marriott keeps his form up how long will he stay a Peterborough United player? I know it’s early to talk about it but with it being a part of the Posh’s history it will be coming into question soon maybe as soon as January.
Tell us what you think about Marriott Posh fans and if you think he’ll keep this form up.
