After Manchester United’s historic 2-1 loss on Saturday away at Huddersfield Town, many are believing that the fire power that started at Old Trafford this season has died down and whether the Red Devils can compete against City and others such as Tottenham and Chelsea for this season’s title.
United are currently without Pogba and Fellaini and are seriously missing them. They haven’t won without either of them and due to this, their city rivals are five points clear at the top of the table. When they come back from injury, the midfield of Pogba and Matic, or even Fallaini replacing either of them, will be one of, if not the toughest test that a team would have to face this season.
Worries with other teams is that Manchester City look unstoppable, not playing at their best and only winning 3-0 at the weekend against Burnley, which is like dropping points for the Citizens at the minute. The moment to see what Pep Guardiola’s team is made of is to see how they react when they start dropping points. Other teams such as Tottenham are showing fight as well, overcoming their Wembley demons and proving themselves ready for when the gap of five points becomes narrower.
However, United are still major title contenders. It’s only October, they have Jose Mourinho, they have serious squad, and still have injured players such as Pogba, Fellaini and Ibrahimovic to come back. They can win the league, but from now on it will be a serious fight until May.
