This Saturday, relegation candidates Morecambe will host the play-off pushing Forest Green Rovers at the Globe Arena, in a match that could prove instrumental in determining the outcome of both side’s seasons.
The Shrimps enter the match off the back of a very unfortunate 3-2 defeat away to fellow relegation strugglers, Yeovil Town. The Shrimps started well, entering half-time 1-0 to the good, but unfortunately lost the game 3-2 via a late Ryan Seager winner. The Lancashire side have been good on the road recently. The loss against Yeovil signalled the end of an unbeaten away streak of 5 games that included Jim Bentley watching on as his side beat Paul Scholes’ Oldham at Boundary Park.
Forest Green are also looking to bounce back after a 2-1 loss to league leaders, Lincoln City. A shock looked on the cards when Reece Brown put the rovers up within 10 minutes, but a John Akinde brace ensured the Red Imps continued their march to the title.
The last time the two sides met was back in November 2018, when the Shrimps managed to bag a late winner at The New Lawn, courtesy of Morecambe skipper, Aaron Wildig, who scored the only goal of the game. Will the shrimps manage to sink the play-off pushing side again and keep themselves afloat?
Morecambe and Forest Green both face a tough run of fixtures after their clash. The Shrimps have a bout against League-One-Dreaming MK Dons on the horizon whereas Forest Green Rovers face Colchester, who sit level on points with them.
