Huddersfield Town v Reading Preview

Reading travel to Huddersfield after a 1-1 draw with promotion candidates West Brom. Last Sunday saw Reading put three past Cardiff as they eased to victory. The same can’t be said for Huddersfield Town though, as they are yet to register a win. The recently relegated team most recently fell to a late 2-1 defeat in South Wales on Tuesday night. Is there trouble for The Terriers?

Huddersfield will be looking to end a woeful run of form, which sees the West Yorkshire side not recording a win since February.

Jose Gomes’ men haven’t won on the road this term. This season has seen Reading squander at the KCOM Stadium, and pick up a very respectable point at the Hawthorns after leading until the 88th minute.

Mark Hudson has taken the caretaker manager role at the expense of German head coach Jan Siewert, however its not the first time the former player turned coach has taken charge of Town in front of a home crowd. Last season saw Hudson take charge for Huddersfield’s 3-0 defeat to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Reading have won just 1 of their 4 previous games. The Royals suffered defeat in their opening 2 games, however managing to accumulate 4 points in their last 2 outings.

Mark Hudson has expressed his interest in the current Huddersfield vacancy, nonetheless there will have to be an improvement on Tuesday night if he wants to secure the Job. Despite the performance at the Cardiff City stadium, Hudson is favourite to land the Huddersfield Job.

Huddersfield and Reading have a reasonably even head to head record. The last 12 meetings between the two sides has seen The Terriers win 5, lose 4 and draw 3. Despite the even record, both sets of fans will look back on the Play-Off showdown in may 2017 with contrasting emotions.

Huddersfield come into the game with no real injury concerns. Where as Reading will be without winger Jordan Obita and defender Tyler Blackett.

This weekend could see Josh Koroma and Reece Brown feature for the first time for Huddersfield, at the expense of the underperforming Alex Pritchard and Isaac Mbenza.

Huddersfield’s Chelsea loanee Trevor Chalobah will look to retain his role in the starting eleven, following the man of the match performance on Tuesday night.

Will we see Huddersfield document their first win of the campaign or will we see Reading steal the show and take all 3 points back to Berkshire?

Prediction: Huddersfield 0-0 Reading

A big question mark over Paul Pogba’s future

Since arriving for a substantial fee of $90m in 2016, its fair to say, Paul Pogba hasn’t lived up to expectations and has consistently created disputes for Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

While Paul Pogba has produced moments of magic in a Manchester United Shirt, the Frenchman has gained a considerable amount of media attention with rumours linking Pogba with a move to Real Madrid.

When arriving in Manchester, Pogba was the most expensive signing in the world. The Frenchman was undoubtedly a marquee signing and brought plenty of excitement amongst the Manchester United Fanbase. However after a season of disappointment, its fair to say that Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba’s relationship became rather volatile. Shortly before Jose Mourinho lost his Job at Manchester United, the 56 year old labelled Pogba as a “virus” in the Manchester United dressing room. Jose likewise mentioned that Pogba had disrespected the players and most importantly the supporters.

Many Manchester United fans still love Pogba, however its become noticeable that there is a divide of opinions on the midfielder. Manchester United supporters are frustrated at the Frenchman’s inconsistency and attitude towards the club.

When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrived as caretaker manager, he had an instant impact on Paul Pogba. Earlier this year Pogba revealed that he wanted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to get the full time job at Manchester United. Nonetheless since getting the full time Job, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has faced complications with Paul Pogba.

Its been no secret that Pogba wants to leave Manchester United. Paul Pogba’s brother confirmed he wants to leave the club, and is “waiting” for the Real Madrid transfer. Paul’s agent has also revealed Pogba has intentions of leaving.

There has been interest from Spanish side Real Madrid for a number of months now, the latest we’ve seen from the rumour is a bid of £27.4m and James Rodriguez. Manchester United declined the bid as it was way below their valuation. There have been reports of Real Madrid making one last push for Pogba this summer. However the Spanish giants have already spent a colossal £270m in their window.

We’ve also seen interest from Maurizio Sarri’s Juventus. Not withstanding, the Old Lady are yet to launch a bid for Paul Pogba. Furthermore we see Pogba making a return to Italy improbable.

Despite the transfer window closing for English sides in early August, teams from the rest of Europe will have until September 2nd to secure their summer signings.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that Paul Pogba will remain a Manchester United player. In an interview last week the Manchester United boss said “Yeah, for me he [Pogba] is going to stay”.

Will we see Pogba make a late exit out of Manchester United, or will he have to wait another 6 months for his “dream” move?

What has gone wrong at Bolton?

As many people will already know , it has been a disastrous 12 months at the Macron stadium. Its been just over seven years since Bolton were relegated from the premier league , furthermore eleven years since we saw Bolton in the Europa league.

Bolton loved life when Edwin Davies was chairman , Edwin was chairman of Bolton for 13 years spanning from 2003 to 2016. Davies sold the club to Ken Anderson in 2016. Anderson has lead the club into a whole host of complications , Bolton were forced into administration due to an unpaid £1.2m tax bill. This resulted into Boltons players and staff not receiving payment for up to 20 weeks. Undoubtedly this raised eyebrows nevertheless this was only one of Bolton wanderers disputes. The club were underperforming in the league and had been given a colossal 12 point deduction for the start of the 2019/2020 campaign.

Despite it being a horrific last 12 months for Bolton wanderers fans , life under Ken Anderson hasn’t constantly being this dreadful. Bolton achieved promotion to the championship in the 2016/2017 and stayed up on the last day in the 2017/2018 season.

Although its the start of a new season , things haven’t got any better at Bolton. Earlier this month Bolton announced the cancellation of their friendly against Chester FC , the reasoning for the cancellation was due to the players and backroom staff hadn’t been paid for up to 20 weeks. It is believed that Bolton have 15 players currently ready for next season , However its still evident that the staff and players at the club are still not being paid for their efforts.

Its very clear that times are tough at Bolton wanderers and it has been stated that everyone at the club from the chairman to the fans want new ownership. Ken Anderson is still chairman of bolton which is a frustrating factor for Bolton fans , hopefully for the Bolton fans a takeover can happen as soon as possible.

Bolton are not going to be favourites for promotion that is for sure , the 12 point deduction has been an atrocious blow for the wanderers.

Will we see Bolton back in the championship anytime soon?

Huddersfield Town , Worst kit ever?

Earlier today Huddersfield Town have released what has been labelled a “Joke of a kit” , while some fans suspect this was a PR Stunt by Paddy Power , the Terriers have worn the shirt in tonights pre season friendly against Rochdale.

We see Huddersfield retain the Blue and white stripes , nonetheless the Terriers have gone with a retro style badge in the centre of the shirt.

While the new kit was released on all social media platforms from Huddersfield Town , Terriers fans were still adamant that the new reveal was a prank as Paddy power are recognised for pranks. However when the Town players walked onto the pitch at Spotland stadium with the new strip on , Town fans had lost all optimism.

While things were looking up for Huddersfield as they prepare for the coming championship season , they have been unfortunate enough to have acquired one of the worst kits of all time.

Huddersfield Towns commercial director , Sean Jarvis said “We’ve gone for a really modern twist on how we feature the famous Paddy power logo” While the community behind the scenes at Huddersfield town are satisfied with the new kit its fair to say the fans don’t share the same opinion.

The new reveal has obtained a lot of social media attention , with the new strip going viral , while this could be seen as something positive Huddersfield Town have received a lot of criticism following the release of the new kit.

Many fans noticed that the kit has breached the FA’s advertising regulations for match day kits and the FA has picked up on that and contacted Huddersfield town. It is believed that Huddersfield could face a punishment as their new shirt is heavily branded. However the championship side have stated that the sponsor will feature on their kit for the 2019/2020 season.

Despite the alleged breaking of rules Huddersfield have confirmed The kit is set to be on sale from the 20th July

As far as the worst kits of all time go the new Terriers kit is definitely up there. Would you go as far as saying this is the worst kit of all time?

Bristol City: dark horses for promotion?

Bristol City have never played Premier League football , could this be their season to achieve promotion to the top-flight?

The Robins have retained their mid table status for the last few seasons and have had glimpses of tremendous form. Current manager, Lee Johnson, has been in charge since February 2016. Bristol City had a considerable run in the League Cup in 2017/2018. Will we see the Robins make it to the Premier League this season?

The 2017/2018 season was a modest season for Bristol City, knocking out Manchester United in the EFL cup was one of the highlights of their season. Finishing 11th place was acceptable on paper for Bristol City, nonetheless it could be deemed disappointing by many considering the Robins sat 2nd on Boxing Day.

The 2018/2019 season has been an excellent season for Bristol city. In pre-season, Bristol saw significant players such as Aiden Flint, Bobby Reid and Joe Bryan depart the club. Despite accumulating over £20 million in the summer, Bristol City only spent £2.5 million on signings. Bristol City had a satisfactory start to the season winning 4 of their first 7 games. Likewise, The Robins went on a 13 match unbeaten run from November to February. Despite experiencing immense patches of form in the last few seasons we haven’t seen Bristol feature in the Championship play-offs. The last time City participated In the Championship play-offs was when they reached the final in 2008.

Bristol City have had a total of 12 clean sheets this season which ranks them 7th in terms of the Championship’s best defences. City have the 4th lowest average of goals conceded in the league, with Lee Johnson’s side only shipping an average of 1.1 goals a game. However, the Robins have only scored 1.3 goals per game, making them the only the 13th best attacking force in the division. One dispute in the Bristol city team is that they don’t have a prolific striker, with their leading goalscorer being Famara Diedhiou who has bagged 11 goals this term.

Its unlikely that Bristol City will gain automatic promotion in the coming seasons as they don’t have the financial strength to compete with arguably larger teams such as Leeds , Middlesbrough and Derby. Although it seems Bristol City have progressed and have been going in the right direction since appointing Lee Johnson in 2016.

Nevertheless, the play offs could be a route Bristol could take to gain promotion. We’ve seen teams like Huddersfield Town gain promotion through the play offs despite not being as wealthy as other Championship clubs. On their day, Bristol City, like every side, can beat anybody. The play-offs are often a lottery and teams can win it should luck be on their side.

Will we see Bristol City promoted this season?
