Match Preview: Peterborough United v MK Dons

Big match on Tuesday for Posh fans, after the defeat at home to Bradford at the weekend Peterborough will be looking to bounce back against their rivals, MK Dons on Tuesday night.

Good news for Posh fans as well that they have won three of their last four meetings the only exception  was a 2-0 loss at MK last season and the last meeting they had at London Road was a 4-0 smashing by The Posh.

MK come into this game only winning two of their last five games, the 1-0 win against Plymouth at the weekend and 2-0 against Brighton Under 21s in the Checkatrade Trophy, they sit 15th in League 1 with only seven points from six games only scoring four goals in those six games as well.

This match is big for both sides as MK won’t want to make it four losses in a row against Peterborough and they will want to get momentum going into the rest of the season, whereas Peterborough will want to bounce back quickly from the loss at the weekend especially when a lot of their players said at the weekend that they wanted to challenge for the Play-offs this season.

Robbie Neilson had a huge overhaul of his team over the summer as well bringing in 19 new players with the likes of Osman Sow, Aidan Nesbitt and Ethan Ebanks-Landell coming in to help out their squad for the new campaign.

If anything I’m sure this match will have a lot of attacking football from both sides, as Posh showed at the weekend even in defeat they create a lot of chances so if anything is to go by it’s one of the highest scoring teams in the league against one of the lowest but as we’ve seen it happen many times before anything can happen in a derby.

Possible scores, 3-0 Posh or 4-1 Posh.

Match Preview: Peterborough United v Bradford City

This weekend Peterborough will host Bradford City for the first time this season and will look to get a better result then last season when Jordy Hiwula’s strike was all that seperated the two sides.

The Posh are on great form sitting top of League 1 three points ahead of Bradford who sit in sixth, Bradford has won four of their last six games, losing one and drawing the other.

Bradford made a great charge for promotion last season but lost out to Millwall in the play-off final so will want to get promoted to the Championship at the end of this season. Stuart McCall helped the team to it last season and with the additions of Charlie Wykes and Dominic Poleon over the summer they will help Bradford on the attacking side, they’ve already got five goals between them as well.

This is a huge game for the Posh as Bradford pushed for promotion last season and will want to again this year , if Peterborough want to be competitive this season they need to get results against these sorts of teams, they already have against Rotherham this season and this is they’re next big test for Grant McCann’s side.

Paul Taylor will also be in focus in this game as this is his first game back at London Road since leaving for Bradford in the summer, if Taylor is picked in the Bradford squad it will be interesting to see how he does against his old side and how the fans will treat him.

If I had to predict a score here I’d say either 1-0 Bradford or 2-1 Peterborough.

Upon This Rock: Grant McCann’s New Boys

It’s been a big window for Grant McCann and his Peterborough side after last season, losing the likes of Luke McGee, Micheal Boswick and Tom Nichols to name a few.

So it has been a summer of bringing in the talent at Peterborough and the key part is that if they can improve on the squad they had last season and on a budget as well.

So far key additions have been Jack Marriott, Johnathan Bond and Steven Taylor for the Posh this season, with the departure of both Luke McGee who left Tottenham for Portsmouth in the summer and Mark Tyler who retired to be a coach there was a huge void in the position and Bond has filled that well for the Posh already this season.

Jack Marriott so far is looking like a bargain for Posh getting him from Luton for £450,000 the 22 year old scored 22 times for the Hatters and has started off really strong for the Posh scoring six in his first four games, with the departures of Lee Angol, Tom Nichols and Paul Taylor Posh didn’t have much option up front coming into the year and McCann has got this huge buy, if Marriott keeps this up it could be signing of the season.

Big departure at the back for Posh fans as well, Micheal Boswick left for Lincoln City in the summer, Boswick has been in Peterborough for five seasons and became a huge player at the club, in my eyes at points he was the best player on the pitch most of the time, he could play anywhere at points, I’m surprised he wasn’t in goal for us at one point, with his departure we lost a huge voice and experience in the back line and the addition of Steven Taylor looks to have been a worthy replacement for a club icon.

Other arrivals to keep an eye on over the season are, Danny Lloyd, Micheal Doughty and Idris Kanu, Danny Lloyd has climbed up the ranks of the football league and had a great season last year for Stockport County which attracted the attention of McCann, from experience with Posh they like to pick players from the national league and turn them into great players and Lloyd could be another, this could be a learning year for him but i can see him starting to force his way into the first team this year.

Kanu is another who was picked from non-league football as he came from Aldershot, he has been getting some game time at the start of the year which is great to see especially for a player who’s only 17 years old he might be one to keep an eye on, Micheal Doughty has featured in everyone of McCann’s teams so far this year and looks to be a great fit in the middle of the park he has been jumping from team to team after loan spells all across the football league but he looks to have fit into the squad already and McCann is showing a lot of faith in him already.

Ross Barkley Rejects Champions

Ross Barkley has just rejected a move to Chelsea in the past few moments, despite the clubs agreeing a deal worth £35m.

Is this a good move on his part? Yes and No, realistically he isn’t good enough for Chelsea and the squad they have.

After the recent saga he has had after rejecting a new contract with Everton, he won’t get into the squad now. With the new additions of Klaassen and Sigurdsson it is hard to see Barkley been first choice and could find himself down the order in terms of getting picked for the starting XI.

Barkley has less then a year left on his contract and could leave Goodison Park at the end of this season on a free transfer, but with this unexpected u-turn and the England international on his way back to Everton, it remains to be seen if he will sit down with manager Ronald Koeman and possibly sign a new deal.

What do you think Everton fans? Are you happy that Barkley has stayed or do you want rid of him?

Upon This Rock: Perfect Start

Possibly the best start Peterborough United could have hoped for this season, winning their first four games of the season.

Wins over Plymouth, Bristol Rover, Rotherham and Northampton have fired the Posh to the top of League 1 at the end of August.

Grant McCann has a lot to be happy about with how his side have started the season aswell. Going forward they look deadly with Jack Marriott up top who has already scored six times out of those four games.

There was a lot of questions from fans after a very disappointing season last year, after starting so strong The Posh faded away in the second half of the season but now it looks like the squad have found something different that is working for them and it’s exiting to watch them again,

Will this form continue? I hope so, despite the fact the team would defiantly struggle in the Championship it would always be stunning to have huge teams from the championship come to London Road,

Peterborough go away to newly promoted Doncaster Rovers on Saturday and if this start is anything to go by Posh should be coming out the gates and attack The Rovers, It’s the first time McCann will go head to head with his former Manager, Darren Ferguson, so will be great to see the two reunited.
