Match Preview: Manchester United v FC Basel

Manchester United are back in the Champions League for the first time since 2015 and face Swiss Super League outfit FC Basel on the opening night of this seasons competition.

Following their triumph in the Europa League last season, United will be hoping that they have some success in the Champions League this term. As well as Swiss side FC Basel, the Red Devils head into the group stage alongside Benfica and CSKA Moscow.

Premier League centre half pairing Phil Jones and Eric Bailly miss out, through suspension, but Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof will deputise at the heart of the United defence, with David De Gea starting in goal.

FC Basel come into the fixture on the back of 3 games without a victory, but do have a decent record at Old Trafford as they have managed to take a point away from Manchester on the previous two trips.

Former Norwich striker Ricky Van Wolfswinkel, will lead the line for the Swiss outfit and he has been in impressive form scoring 7 goals in 7 games for FC Basel.

Score Prediction: Manchester United 2-0 FC Basel

Should Leicester City sign this free agent?

Leicester City have made a poor start to the current 2017/18 Premier League season having won just one of their opening three games with the other two coming in as losses.

With this in mind and the fact that the transfer window has slammed shut should Craig Shakespeare go after a free agent to bolster the defence of his squad?

The free agent that Leicester could make a move for is Bacary Sagna who is the versatile right-back that Leicester could be looking at adding to the squad. Sagna will bring with him a wealth of experience at the top of the game having played for Arsenal, Manchester City and he also made 65 appearances for the France senior team.

Sagna is available to join another club outside the transfer window as he is a free agent after leaving City earlier this summer and he is set to be one of the most in-demand free agents on the market.

The 34-year-old spent three seasons at City after joining from Arsenal on a free transfer, making 85 appearances in all competitions for the Etihad club during his time there.

The right-back started 17 Premier League games last season, but his contract at the Etihad was not extended when it expired in June with City bringing in two new right-backs in Kyle Walker and Danilo.

Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare is keen to bring in cover and competition for regular right-back Danny Simpson, and Sagna would fit the bill as he would have no problem settling in having spent the last 10 years playing in the Premier League.

The replacement for Gylfi Sigurdsson?

Swansea City are confident of completing a season long loan deal for Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Renato Sanches.

After parting with Gylfi Sigurdsson earlier in the transfer window, Swansea have been on the look out for his replacement ever since and it looks like Sanches will be that man. Having worked with Paul Clement during the Swansea manager’s time at Bayern Munich as assistant manager, both parties will know how each other work and could prove to a terrific signing for the club.

Having joined Bayern Munich from Benfica in May 2016, Sanches struggled for a run in the team last campaign and there has been much speculation throughout the summer that the Portuguese star would be moving away from the Allianz Arena.

Sanches was apart of the Portuguese national team that won Euro 2016 and would be a real coup for Swansea, should they get the deal done.
