Would signing this striker help Bolton stay in the Championship?

Bolton Wanderers return to the Championship has been a struggle, but back to back victories against Sheffield United and Hull City respectively has seen the Trotters move out of the relegation zone and up to 20th in the league table.

Despite the victories, Bolton are struggling in front goal as they have only found the back of the net on 25 occasions in 26 games in the league, with striker Gary Madine the leading goalscorer on 9 goals but he need’s support up top if the club are to stay up this season. With that in mind, Bolton should look to sign Forest Green striker Christian Doidge in the January transfer window.

Christian Doidge – The Forest Green striker has found the back of the net on 12 occasions this season so far, with the club only scoring 25 goals in total, showing just how prolific Doidge is.

The Welshman helped fire Forest Green to the Football League last season finding the back of the net on 25 times in the National League and is highly rated by the clubs supporters, but a move to the Championship could be too big an opportunity to turn down if it came along.

Plymouth should look to sign this former Premier League star

Plymouth Argyle have struggled to adjust to life in League One, winning just 1 of their opening 6 matches. After finishing second and getting promoted last season, manager Derek Adams strengthened his squad by bringing in no fewer than 13 new players to the club.

One player that the club were linked but in recent days look to set to miss out on is free agent Josh Wright. After leaving Gillingham, the midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Southend but that move is still up in the air, with ‘Shrimps’ manager Phil Brown waiting for the good ahead that the necessary funds are available to sign the player.

According to The Herald, Plymouth are still interested in Josh Wright but with his future up in the air, the club should turn their attentions to other free agent and former Premier League player Jay Spearing.

Jay Spearing – The midfielder left Bolton Wanderers at the end of last season after failing to agree terms on a new contract, leaving him looking for a new club.

Having started his professional career at Liverpool, Spearing made his competitive first team debut in the Champions League against PSV Eindhoven, before making loan moves to Leicester City and Bolton Wanderers respectively in the 2010 and 2012-2013 seasons.

Following his loan move to Bolton he made his move permanent in 2013 and stayed at the club 4 years.

With plenty of experience under his belt and having played at the highest level of club football the Champions League, Spearing could bring experience to the Plymouth ranks which could help the club move up the League One table.

Is this former Brazilian international set to sign for Bolton?

There are widespread reports that former Brazilian international Julio Baptista is set to sign for Championship strugglers Bolton Wanderers.

Bolton who have yet to win a match in the Championship, bolstered their striking options over the summer bringing in Adam Le Fondre and Aaron Wilbraham from Cardiff City and Bristol City respectively, as well as completing the loan signing of Adam Armstrong from Newcastle United.

Whilst they are 3 known names in English football and have all scored goals at Championship level in the past, they have struggled so far this season and it looks like manager Phil Parkinson is looking to bring in more experience to try and help his Wanderers side climb off the foot of the table and give them every chance of staying in the division.

Julio Baptista – The Brazilian who plied his trade in the MLS with Orlando City last season, was released when his contract option was refused by the club in November 2016 and he became a free agent.

Baptista has played previously in England, joining Arsenal on loan from Real Madrid in 2006.

He can play in a number of positions including just behind the striker or he can operate from the left wing, which gives Phil Parkinson options in his squad. Having made over 350 appearances for major clubs around the world, he could be a useful addition to the Bolton ranks and help them secure Championship football for another season.
