Match Preview: Manchester United v Everton

Manchester United head into the Premier League fixture with Everton on Sunday, on the back of a comfortable 3-0 victory over FC Basel in the Champions League. The Red Devils are also unbeaten in the league in 4 games (Winning 3, Drawing 1), and entertain an Everton side who are struggling for form currently.

The Toffee’s head into the match at Old Trafford on the back of a 3-0 defeat to Atalanta in Thursday’s Europa League, and also without a win in 3 Premier League games. After starting the season with an opening day victory over Stoke City, the Merseyside outfit have gone on to draw 1 and lose their other 2 league fixtures.

Manchester United have had a good recent record against Everton, as they have won 3 of the last 5 meetings between the two outfits in all competitions. Last season saw both matches end in 1-1 draws, so both will be looking to claim maximum points this time around.

The Red Devils will be without midfielder Paul Pogba, who picked up a hamstring injury in midweek against FC Basel, but fullback Luke Shaw has recovered from injury so could be part of the match day squad.

Both sides signed strikers from one another over the summer and will be hoping that they can find the back of the net on Sunday. Everton striker Wayne Rooney has 2 goals to his name so far this season, and is the only Everton player to find the back of the net, with Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku having scored 5 goals in all competitions so far this season.

Score Prediction: Manchester United 2-0 Everton

Manchester United two key players so far this season

Manchester United have made an unbeaten start to the Premier League season, and topped that off last night beating FC Basel 3-0 in their first group stage Champions League match at Old Trafford.

Goals from substitute Mauroune Fellaini, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford, gave the ‘Red Devils’ a comfortable victory against the Swiss Super League outfit. One downside of the evening was Paul Pogba going off with what looked to be a hamstring injury, but manager Jose Mourinho would have been delighted to see substitute Fellaini come on and score.

United head into this weekend’s game against Everton looking to maintain top spot in the Premier League, but Pogba’s injury will have given Mourinho a selection headache, does he give goalscorer Fellaini the nod in the midfield or does he turn to Ander Herrera or Michael Carrick.

With United’s terrific start to the season I take a look at who I believe are the Two most key players in the side right now.

David De Gea – Without question one of the best goalkeepers, if not the best goalkeeper in the world right now! Under the tenure of David Moyes and Louis Van Goal respectively, the Spanish shot stopper won United many points having to make world class saves time and time again.

This season, even though United didn’t concede in their first three games he has been a safe pair of hands when called upon, seeing him make a point blank save against Stoke on Saturday and also again last night shows even though he hasn’t had a lot to do he is reliable when called upon.

Romelu Lukaku – A summer signing from Jose Mourinho that was definitely needed. After Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the only potent force in front of goal last season it was important to get another goal scorer into the club and in Lukaku, United have got someone who is already proven in the Premier League after his time with Everton.

Grabbing his first Champions League goal last night and having grabbed 4 goals in the Premier League already this season, Lukaku has hit the ground running quickly and looks like he is going to be a key man this season for United.

Match Preview: Manchester United v FC Basel

Manchester United are back in the Champions League for the first time since 2015 and face Swiss Super League outfit FC Basel on the opening night of this seasons competition.

Following their triumph in the Europa League last season, United will be hoping that they have some success in the Champions League this term. As well as Swiss side FC Basel, the Red Devils head into the group stage alongside Benfica and CSKA Moscow.

Premier League centre half pairing Phil Jones and Eric Bailly miss out, through suspension, but Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof will deputise at the heart of the United defence, with David De Gea starting in goal.

FC Basel come into the fixture on the back of 3 games without a victory, but do have a decent record at Old Trafford as they have managed to take a point away from Manchester on the previous two trips.

Former Norwich striker Ricky Van Wolfswinkel, will lead the line for the Swiss outfit and he has been in impressive form scoring 7 goals in 7 games for FC Basel.

Score Prediction: Manchester United 2-0 FC Basel
