Bury VS Oldham| Who needs the win more?

Tomorrow sees a huge clash not just in the League Two promotion race but for the bragging rights in Lancashire. The game between Bury and Oldham is a fiercely contested fixture which brings huge crowds and big tackles. Both sides have adapted qute well to life in League Two with Bury sitting pretty in second place just two points behind Lincoln and Oldham in 11thjust six points off the play offs but they now have Manchester United legend Paul Scholes at the wheel.

The home side have not lost in 2019 with The Shakers winning eight out of a possible ten since the turn of the year. An impressive feat for manager Ryan Lowe as he must be feeling that promotion is a very real possibility. However, with this being their third game in just eight days he may have to rotate his squad. To make rotation harder Bury could be without Scott Wharton after he picked up a groin strain against Exeter, this on top of being without Stephen Dawson (foot) and forward Jermaine Beckford (knee).

Paul Scholes has tasted every result possible on paper from his first three games in charge of The Latics as he has a win, a draw and a loss. This will be the new managers first taste of a derby from the dugout and from both his supporting and playing days he will know exactly what this means for the fans.

Bury and Oldham have played forty-eight times, with both sides being deadlocked at fifteen wins each. Meaning the remaining eighteen games have ended all square.

In the last three meetings between Bury and Oldham, there has been thirteen goals scored.

A loss wouldn’t be a disaster for Bury who can’t fall out of the automatic promotion places with a defeat but The Shakers will surely want to keep momentum going heading into the crunch end of the season. A draw would definitely be something that Ryan Lowe may secretly settle for considering anything can happen in such a big derby.

Paul Scholes will know that a defeat could leave Oldham nine points off the play-offs with only twelve games to play so you can bet he will demand a big performance from his players. Callum Lang and Tom Hamer are both doubtful for Oldham coming into the game with Lang in particular a huge miss. This blow could be offset with Oldham set to take nearly 3000 fans to Gigg Lane it could be an atmosphere to remember and if the game is half as good as the crowd we are in for a cracker.

Its certain to be a great game at Gigg Lane with Oldham possibly needing the three points more than their hosts Bury. Who do you think will win this huge derby?

Three potential managers at West Brom

It’s been a torrid season for West Brom this season and in all honesty, I feel so sorry for their fans and what they have had to put up with this season. The club sacked long-standing manager Tony Pulis after a poor run of games and appointed the samba dancing prince that is Alan Pardew.

And it hasn’t really worked out for Alan as he has managed just one win out of the 18 games he has taken charge of at The Hawthorns. On top of this, he decided to take the squad to Barcelona for a warm-weather training camp but instead Gareth Barry and some other teammates decided to steal a taxi at 4 in the morning. So unsurprisingly West Brom took the decision to part ways with Pardew and are now looking for their third manager of the season.

Here are three potential candidates.

  1. Mick McCarthy

With McCarthy leaving Ipswich upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the season it may be possible for West Brom to snap his services up now. With The Baggies all but relegated this season McCarthy has great experience of gaining promotion back into the Premier League and if he has the right budget West Brom shouldn’t be down for long.

  1. Nigel Pearson

The man who uttered the famous words ‘You’re an Ostrich’. Nigel Pearson much the same as Mick McCarthy has great experience in The Championship and should West Brom go down that could prove to be vital. However, Pearson also managed to guide Leicester away from relegation in 2015 which was hailed as a miracle which is certainly what West Brom need this season.

  1. Marco Silva

Out of the three, Marco Silva is the least likely to end up at West Brom due to his credentials and also his lack of Championship experience. But should West Brom want to be ambitious and change their style of play then Silva would be an extremely positive gamble and one that West Brom fans could get on board with?

Is this Non-League striker the ideal replacement for Billy Bodin?

Preston North End completed the signing of Billy Bodin from Bristol Rovers for an undisclosed fee leaving Darell Clarke looking for a replacement in the January transfer window.

Bristol Rovers have had an average first half of the season as they find themselves in 14th place in the League One table and with Bodin departing the Memorial Stadium, Bristol Rovers have lost there leading goalscorer who found the back of the net on 11 occasions this season and also provided 4 assists for his team.

The club is going to have to scout the market to replace Bodin this month and with that in mind, they should turn their attention to AFC Fylde striker Danny Rowe.

Danny Rowe – The AFC Fylde striker has been prolific in front of goal in his time with the club and has helped them come through the non-league divisions. Having found the back of the net on 47 occasions last season in National League North, and now he is the joint leading goalscorer in the National League on 13 goals showing just how prolific he is.

Sheffield Wednesday should look to sign this free Italian agent

Sheffield Wednesday have had a disappointing start to the new Championship season as they have only picked up 1 win in their opening 5 games.

Last season following the clubs play-off semi final defeat to Huddersfield Town, the club back their manager Carlos Carvalhal as he was handed a new contract with the Yorkshire outfit.

The ‘Owls’ board also gave the club money to spend in the window as Carvalhal bought in 3 new signings. Joost van Aken joined from SC Heerenveen, and Frederico Venancio and Jacob Butterfield joined on loan from Vitoria Setubal and Derby County respectively.

The deal to bring Butterfield to Hillsborough saw striker Sam Winnall go in the opposite direction and join Derby on a season long loan deal.

With the ‘Owls’ letting Winnall join Derby and the fact that the club have only scored 4 goals in their opening 5 fixtures the club should turn to Italian free agent Guiseppe Rossi.

Giuseppe Rossi –  After playing for Celta Vigo last season whilst on loan from Fiorentina, the Italian managed to find the back on 6 occasions in all competitions, before his season was cut short by an injury which he is expected to have recovered from in the coming weeks.

He has been at his most prolific whilst in La Liga as he has scored 64 goals and provided 20 assists in his 170 games, and if Sheffield Wednesday and Carlos Carvalhal were to take a chance on the striker, the club would be getting a quick left footed striker who is known for his goal scoring and creativity and could prove a useful addition for the club.
