Who should the Sky Blues take a punt on?

Coventry City have already been busy in the transfer window after making three new signings; which include experienced defender, Kyle McFadzean; Doncaster Rovers goalkeeper, Marko Marosi, who is the likely candidate to replace former Sky Blues number one, Lee Burge, and Bradford City goalkeeper, Mark Wilson.

Highly-rated young defender, Michael Rose, also joined the club this summer from Ayr United, after he was signed back in January.

However, Mark Robins still has plenty more business to do.

With the club finishing 8th in their first season back in League One, the side lacked goals and was the main criticism with fans.

Graham Carey

Carey featured 34 times in the 2018/19 season for Plymouth Argyle scoring four times but couldn’t help his side from relegation.

The experienced Argyle attacking midfielder would be a great addition into a young Sky Blues squad. Carey has had a new contract offer from Plymouth, but is expected to turn it down following the clubs relegation to League Two; and Coventry are in hot pursuit for the highly rated midfielder.

With the addition of Carey, the Sky Blues could have a complete set in midfield with Liam Kelly, Tom Bayliss, Jordan Shipley and Zain Westbrooke already performing well for the club.

John Marquis

The Doncaster Rovers striker scored 22 goals last season for the League One play-off side and has been on Robins’ radar for a while.

With Coventry struggling to score goals last season, a proven goal scoring striker in League One like Marquis will be a perfect signing for the Sky Blues, who will hope to aim for play-offs this season.

With the club already having young strikers who could fit the bill such as; Amadou Bakayoko, Jordy Hiwula, Conor Chaplin and Jordan Ponticelli, Marquis would add to the experience and goals that the Sky Blues need.

Bright Enobakhare

After a successful loan spell with Coventry last season, Enobakhare is the ideal target for all Sky Blue fans, with the 21 year olds pace, skill and awareness on the pitch, the attacking midfielder, who mainly played as a second striker during his time at Coventry, will be a great, permanent addition to the squad.

While at the Sky Blues, Enobakhare featured 18 times, as well as scoring six times and winning young player of the season since joining from Wolverhampton Wanderers in January.

After an impressive spell at the Ricoh Arena, Enobakhare will definitely be high on Robins’ transfer target list.

Plymouth should look to sign this former Premier League star

Plymouth Argyle have struggled to adjust to life in League One, winning just 1 of their opening 6 matches. After finishing second and getting promoted last season, manager Derek Adams strengthened his squad by bringing in no fewer than 13 new players to the club.

One player that the club were linked but in recent days look to set to miss out on is free agent Josh Wright. After leaving Gillingham, the midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Southend but that move is still up in the air, with ‘Shrimps’ manager Phil Brown waiting for the good ahead that the necessary funds are available to sign the player.

According to The Herald, Plymouth are still interested in Josh Wright but with his future up in the air, the club should turn their attentions to other free agent and former Premier League player Jay Spearing.

Jay Spearing – The midfielder left Bolton Wanderers at the end of last season after failing to agree terms on a new contract, leaving him looking for a new club.

Having started his professional career at Liverpool, Spearing made his competitive first team debut in the Champions League against PSV Eindhoven, before making loan moves to Leicester City and Bolton Wanderers respectively in the 2010 and 2012-2013 seasons.

Following his loan move to Bolton he made his move permanent in 2013 and stayed at the club 4 years.

With plenty of experience under his belt and having played at the highest level of club football the Champions League, Spearing could bring experience to the Plymouth ranks which could help the club move up the League One table.
