COVENTRY CITY TO BE KICKED OUT OF THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE

This morning Coventry City confirmed that the Club had received a formal letter from the EFL regarding where the Bluebirds will play their Home matches for 2019/2020 season.

Coventry City has played at the Ricoh Arena since August 2005 however next season could be left homeless if the club can not agree to a new deal with the owners of the Ricoh Wasps Holding LTD.

The Wasps Rugby club who also play at the Ricoh Arena and have done since 2014 own the ground and are not open to negotiations with Coventry City.

Coventry’s current rental agreement runs out in May and senior officials at the club have warned that if a new deal can’t be struck it could lead to the expulsion of the football club.

Senior Officials at Coventry have also warned that the club is “severely at risk,” with the League not allowing Coventry to play outside the City next season.

Coventry has until the 5th of March to provide a solution to the EFL board or face being kicked out of the Football League.

HISTORY OF RICOH ARENA AND COVENTRY CITY

The Ricoh Arena was originally built to replace Coventry’s previous home ground Highfield Road and was originally owned by Arena Coventry LTD with the Bluebirds as tenants of the ground.

In 2013 Coventry City moved out of the Ricoh Arena due to a rental dispute with ACL and played there home games at Northampton Sixfields stadium before moving back to Coventry in 2014.

In 2014 ACL were bought out and Wasps took control over the ground.

Coventry City and The Wasps have been unable to agree an extension on the rent agreement with the Wasps not open to an extension till the legal row over the Ricoh is settled.
